Hoodies & the Future of the Internet

There is a lot that's going to be happening over the next few days, so I figured I'd send this out bright and early on a Monday so this doesn't get lost in the sauce. Of course, the good thing about newsletters is you can always just come back to it later.

Plus, these issues that I write aren't even timely. So you know what, forget I said anything. You'll get to this when you get to it.

So there's a watch that I've been drooling after lately (shocker, I know). It's the Solid State Watch from a small #couplegoals company called CW&T based in Brooklyn. As is the case with a lot of watches it was a small batch of production that sold out and will likely never be coming back.

Luckily, the person who they partnered with to make the strap (Nick Mankey) still makes and sells other very similar straps. It's another small company called Nick Mankey Designs and that dude makes some HEAT. My favorites are the "Remove Before Flight" elastic bands which you can customize with different colors and hardware. I've had an off-white one in and out of my cart for the past week. Eventually I'll pull the trigger.

What is Web3?

I can't go more than a week without coming across some interesting crypto topic it seems. While researching Ethereum and Metamask (topics for another newsletter) I kept coming across Web3. I had no idea what it was and if you don't either, then this introduction article is worth reading. It breaks it down simply so that even someone not steeped in Blockchain technology, like yours truly, can understand it.

Navigating the internet in this way seems ideal to me. It's the perfect balance of logging into different services very easily while also protecting customer identities. Instead of creating a new account or signing in with Google or Facebook every time you download a new app, you can log in with your public address. While I doubt this will replace the other options from billion dollar companies, I think something like a Web2.5 is more likely where users have the option to decide how they want to sign into a service.

Arc'teryx Atom AR Hoodie

It's hoodie season! I know this because while exploring upstate over the weekend I almost froze on three separate occasions. Nothing makes you contemplate a good mid-layer like realizing your Uniqlo ultra light down just ain't cutting it anymore. Anywhos, after many internal debates in my head and then asking my girlfriend to make the final decision, we (she) decided on the Arc'teryx Atom AR Hoodie. She has better fashion sense than I do so I trust her.

I already have a larger winter coat from Arc'teryx for when the temperature inevitably plummets and I love it. I got it two years ago and I'm never letting it go. It got me comfortably through a Boston and a New York Winter, which is no easy feat. So sticking with Arc'teryx, I want to pick up the Atom AR Hoodie in this beige color. I figured I could wear it on its own for now and then once it gets really cold just throw it on underneath my larger coat. The only problem is it isn't cheap. So at $299 USD, I'm going to have to save up for a few paychecks before pulling the trigger. Still, at least the decision is made.

The new Google Pixel 6 phones are expected to drop tomorrow, so in honor of that I decided to pixelize them. Seemed fitting.
