The Omega MoonSwatch & the History of Electronic Music

The Omega MoonSwatch & the History of Electronic Music

Since the last issue a lot has changed. I've moved apartments, got a new puppy (her name is Zuri), and got a face piercing. Okay, I didn't get a face piercing but that would be pretty badass. There's been a lot of cool sh*t happening so let's get into it! Here are three things I think are worth your time.

In this issue

Omega x Swatch Moonswatch Madness

The hypiest of hype things to happen recently is the release of the Omega x Swatch collab. The two joined forces to to make a quartz-powered BioCeramic Speedmaster in 11 different colors. All of the colors correspond to a different plant or celestial object ranging from the Sun to the Earth and of course, the Moon.

The Moonwatch on the left with the Jupiter watch on the right.

Pictured here are the two that I think look the best (though the Uranus version that comes in what looks like Tiffany blue is one hell of a sleeper pick). On the left is a pretty great take on the original Moonwatch with the gray plastic really giving it a classic look. Meanwhile the watch on the right (Jupiter) has a sand-colored case with a pop of orange that Omega would never do in a million years with the OG Speedmaster, so the fact that this collab even exists is really cool.

These were released exclusively in Swatch stores (to crazy hypebeast lines) but will also be available online soon retailing at $260 USD.

Google Experiment Tab Maker Extension

One of my longterm projects for this year has been to learn how to make Chrome extensions. Little by little I've been learning to code in order to achieve that goal, but turns out you don't need to know any of that! Last week I stumbled across the Google Experiment Tab Maker which is a no-code tool that lets you build and share extensions.

I gave it a shot and am happy to say that I published my first Chrome extension! Of course, it's fairly limited and basically only does one thing (runs a specific operation every time you open a new tab in Chrome) but it's still cool nonetheless! This one that I make recommends a new Waveform episode every time you open a new tab but I'm sure someone can come up with some more useful functionality.

Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music

I'm a firm believer in doing your due diligence and trying to understand a hobby before you begin to openly contribute to it. While I do enjoy electronic music I've never really been super into the history of it in the same way that I'm familiar with other genres. So while researching how 8-bit music came to be a few weeks ago I came across this gorgeous site that gives the entire history of electronic music.

Not only is the functionality of the website itself super inspiring but it also clearly shows how certain genres diverged from others, complete with music that showcases those differences. It obviously isn't a comprehensive guide to all electronic music ever made but it's still fairly thorough. Plus, there's some snarky writing in it too which is easy to love.
